Technical Manager – Merseyside / Lancashire
Salary: circa £47,000 pa - £52,000 pa + Bonus + Benefits
This food manufacturing business operates from a modern purpose-built BRC accredited site, where they manufacture products for a variety of customers. With a well-established product range and customer base in both the UK and further afield, they are expanding rapidly and have excellent future growth potential.
A vacancy has arisen for a Technical Manager to work with the Technical Director and implement robust Technical procedures and practices. The Technical Manager will undertake a ‘hands-on’ role involving working with a team committed to maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
Duties will include:
1. Assist with the management, development and delivery of the Quality / Technical strategy for the site;
2. Direct line management responsibility for a Quality Manager and Laboratory Manager and indirect responsibility for the QA team, Raw Materials, Laboratory, Hygiene, Pest Control, Audits, HACCP;
3. Able to utilise strong people management skills to manage, direct, and motivate the Quality and Technical team;
4. Work with the Quality Manager to ensure the site is ‘audit ready’ for Internal Audits, Customer Audits, Third Party Audits, Regulatory Audits;
5. Host visitors on site including Audit/Certification teams and Customers;
6. Management and implementation of HACCP and Allergen Controls;
7. Review and improve Food Safety and Quality Management systems to ensure they are robust enough to accommodate an increase in production volumes;
8. Manage supplier approval and ongoing validation for ingredients, packaging and equipment;
9. Develop cohesive relationships with other departments including: Production, Operations, NPD, and Supply Chain;
10. Organize and improve Quality and Technical systems and information that will enable the business to better serve their customers and react to customer needs;
11. Provide a resource to the NPD, advising on Quality and Technical requirements that may affect new product launches, specifications and product costings;
12. Respond to increasing industry demands for technical excellence and keep up-to-date on new and existing Food Legislation;
13. Assist the Technical Director with the implementation of change, communicating information up-and-down, ensuring employees understand new ways of working and the need for change;
14. Ensure Technical knowledge and capability is shared to allow the business to push boundaries and operate at the forefront of Food industry developments.
The Person:
1. Experienced Food industry Technical Manager or Quality Manager ready for a ‘step up’ within a supportive environment;
2. Able to thrive in a company culture that is relaxed, independent, friendly, open;
3. Technology savvy, able to assist as the Technical function implements more computerized/automated systems;
4. Able to coach and consult team members and colleagues at all organisational levels from factory floor to senior leadership;
5. Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent in a Food related discipline;
6. Experience of working as a Technical Manager / Quality Manager in a Food/Drink environment that has effective Technical policies, procedures and work practices;
7. Experience of working as a Technical Manager / Quality Manager in a Food/Drink environment ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements;
8. Strong understanding of HACCP, food legislation, BRC and Internal Auditing;
9. Down to earth hands-on management style;
10. Interested in playing a major part in an exciting growth story.
Salary: circa £47,000 pa - £52,000 pa, plus bonus, plus benefits.
