Do you have a passion for supporting students with Social, Emotional, and SEMH (SEMH) needs? A local SEN school in Bournemouth is seeking a committed Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated team in providing inclusive education and pastoral care.
About the Role:
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you'll provide crucial support to students facing mental health challenges, helping them navigate their educational journey. You'll work closely with teachers and families to foster a supportive environment that addresses each student’s emotional and psychological needs. This role offers a fulfilling opportunity to positively impact young learners in Wareham while gaining valuable experience in mental health support.
Responsibilities:
* Provide empathetic and nurturing support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions and develop coping strategies.
* Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies, working collaboratively with teachers and SENCO to create and maintain a positive learning environment.
* Offer tailored support to students both in and out of the classroom, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
* Build trusting relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem and encouraging positive social interactions.
* Work closely with educational psychologists, social workers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs.
* Track and report on student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments to support their educational and personal development.
Qualifications:
* Experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational or similar setting.
* Understanding of SEMH issues and effective strategies for supporting students.
* Patience, resilience, and a calm demeanour to manage challenging situations sensitively.
* Excellent communication skills to liaise with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues effectively.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to the school community.
