Are you an occupational therapist looking to develop foundational competencies ahead of a fascinating career? If so, you are warmly invited to join the friendly, cohesive and supportive occupational therapy team at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester.
Occupational therapists at St Richard’s are well-respected within the MDT, and enjoy a wide range of development opportunities, gaining a deep understanding of patient care across a broad range of specialisms. These include acute neurology, neuro rehabilitation, cardiac, respiratory, gastric, amputee, frailty, trauma, surgery, orthopaedic, and palliative care.
St Richard's Hospital sits at the foot of South Downs National Park, in the heart of Chichester which is a lively and historic university city. The hospital is a well-established institutional member of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, meaning that band-5 occupational therapists also have access to rotational opportunities at nearby Worthing and Southlands hospitals (there is a free shuttle bus between sites).
Beyond your clinical competencies, you will be well-supported to develop core skills such as leadership, communication, MDT working, education, research and leadership within our AHP Preceptorship Programme, which facilitates and supports your career progression.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide occupational therapy interventions as part of an evidence based, flexible and patient-centred approach, working within a multi-disciplinary team, to meet the health and social care needs of people who are referred to our services.
2. To perform an occupational therapy role for people referred to the post holder’s clinical team with health and social care needs.
3. To provide supervision and support for relevant junior members of occupational therapy staff in conjunction with senior staff.
4. To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated team.
5. To support the supervision and training for students on practice placement.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy OR in final year of MSc or BSc in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registered or as student in the process of getting registered
Experience
* OT Clinical experience (incl. student placements) in area relating to speciality/post or able to demonstrate acceptable equivalent
* Experience of Multidisciplinary working and partnership working with other agencies
* Knowledge of the OT role, relevant OT assessments and interventions in conditions relating to speciality/post.
* Awareness of the principles of clinical governance and its application
Skills
* Ability to analyse assessment outcomes, identify problems and offer solutions.
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own and other’s performance.
* Ability to plan, implement and evaluate OT treatment programmes.
* Ability to prioritise clinical and non-clinical work.
* Presentation and training skills
People Management and Development
* Good verbal and written communication ability to establish and maintain communication on complex, potentially stressful topics in a range of situations, with individuals or groups.
* Ability to develop effective working and therapeutic relationships and team working.
