Job Description
We have a new and exciting opportunity for an Associate IT Architect who will be joining a highly technical and collaborative team. The role holder will support a wide range of architectural activities across the Group Architecture Practice. These include providing support to our Business Architecture, IT Architecture Delivery, and Technology Governance capabilities, through activities like running discovery workshops, synthesising design inputs, applying simple design patterns, assuring simpler designs, and working with architecture tooling.
What you'll be doing
1. Solution Design – Producing simple solution designs and adopting basic patterns independently or supporting complex designs working alongside experienced and specialist architects.
2. Assure Solutions – Supporting assurance processes that ensure solutions meet our business needs and minimise risk. Being able to evaluate simple solutions against pre-defined assessment criteria.
3. Accurate Documentation and Record Keeping – Producing architecture artefacts, e.g., high-level designs, key decision documents. Ensuring Enterprise Architecture tooling records are updated and accurate.
4. Solutions Delivery – Collaborating with project teams and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to support delivery, e.g., assurance of lower-level designs.
5. Provide Clarity on Architecture Processes and Services - Offering guidance to individuals or projects on what architecture is, how to access our services, and when we should be engaged.
6. Improving the Discipline – Supporting improvement initiatives that mature the architecture discipline, e.g., supporting tooling improvements, or optimising processes.
7. Ensuring Compliance – Ensuring business and system changes follow best business practices and the correct change process and methodology, including the IT Change Management Standard.
Qualifications
1. Appropriate qualifications in technical change or technology-related subjects are desirable, but not essential. Alternatively, an academic background in technical subjects is desirable.
2. An understanding of architecture and how it adds value.
3. Knowledge in technical subjects (e.g., data, systems, software, engineering) is a plus.
4. Understanding of technology trends.
5. A curiosity for architecture.
Experience of the following
1. Communicating effectively with stakeholders, adapting style and content as necessary to land messages.
2. Working in or with technical teams (e.g., engineering, software, security, change management).
3. Building successful working relationships and team dynamics in a matrix environment.
4. Practical, common-sense delivery of successful, collaborative solutions.
5. Balancing day-to-day delivery with improving processes and work.
