NHS Lanarkshire
Locum Consultant Dermatologist
We would like to invite applications and expressions of interest from candidates seeking to find their niche in a forward thinking department. Lanarkshire has demonstrated its innovative style over the years, now well established as one of the leaders in active clinical referral triage within Scotland. This allows the department to actively manage almost seventy five percent of referrals with high quality images including dermoscopy playing a huge role in the management of benign skin conditions, ensuring effective maintenance of skin cancer waiting times, well under many other boards in Scotland.
Lanarkshire has a wealth of pathology, which will allow anyone seeking to expand their knowledge in Medical Dermatology to thrive. There are close links with both general paediatrics and regional paediatric dermatology with opportunities for setting up sub specialty clinics. Lanarkshire provides consultant led surgical training with excellent links with Plastic surgery, and access to a shared Mohs service with Forth Valley.
Embedded within our service are two Dermatology pharmacists along with specialist nurses which allows a multidisciplinary team approach, and offers an excellent opportunity for a new appointee to help shape the service. Successful candidates will be encouraged to pursue a subspecialty interest. Part time working would be welcome. New entrants will have their experience assessed and incremental credit applied where appropriate. A relocation package is in place which recognises exceptional sets of circumstances
The department has a strong history of research with excellent support available, and is linked with the West of Scotland registrar training scheme. Trainee reports remain outstanding, with the department providing a nurturing environment to allow growth, and support eportfolio requirements and opportunities. Liaison with Glasgow allows for varied regional and local CME and Governance programmes, and links with Forth Valley allow for Regional innovations. With the prospect of Scotland’s first technological hospital in the Monklands Hospital Replacement Programme currently ongoing, opportunities are available to innovate the service, with plans to include a dedicated Mohs service in the new build.
