An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to support the Ward Manager and team of nursing staff within the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at Shrewsbury Royal Hospital. The candidate will require extensive post registration experience of over 2 years. You will be an experienced RGN and be able to lead and assess the work of the nursing team, building upon your own clinical and managerial experience. Main duties of the job You must oversee and coordinate patient flow within SDEC to ensure timely assessment, treatment and discharge which providing advanced nursing care. Ensure rapid assessment and intervention to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. You will also need to monitor patients for deterioration and escalate to clinicians when needed. You will need to be able to lead and support the nursing teams, ensuring appropriate skill mix and workload distribution. Maximise staff adherence to clinical protocols and best practices. You will need to train & mentor junior nurses and HCA's. Coordinating through the SDEC department to maximise efficiency ensuring timely investigations, treatments and referrals. Work with doctors, ACP's to facilitate same day discharge where possible. You will need excellent communication to explain procedures, treatments & discharge plans to patients and families. Act as a key link between emergency departments, impatient wards and community services. You must comply with infection control, safety and care standards, be able to carry out audits and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure adherence to national guidelines relating to SDEC. Sound clinical knowledge and experience in an acute medical setting is essential and desirably in acute medicine. The successful candidate must have a proven ability in supervising, managing and controlling the activities of a department in an efficient and effective manner. This will involve the assessment and implementation of appropriate care for new and current patients whilst ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and resources used appropriately. You must be able to show good clinical knowledge and leadership with exemplary patient care. Showing commitment and direction to the team as a whole you will actively participate in the teaching, training and supervision of all grades of staff. You will be required to be receptive to change, be dynamic and demonstrate active assistance and support to your more senior colleagues in the ongoing development of the department. You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting.
