A bit about me:
I live with my family in Devizes and am a happy, kind, caring and positive 27-year-old young man with a rare genetic condition. I am on the autism spectrum and have some, but rare, behavioral issues. I have sensory issues and can get highly stimulated in certain situations, which I mostly cope with by stimming. I am non-verbal; I can sign and say a selection of words, but it is not hard to communicate with me. I need my person to confirm their understanding verbally.
I am a wheelchair user (non-motorized) and require someone to assist me by pushing my chair around. I have no safety awareness, so I need someone to be alert at all times and have safety awareness of uneven surfaces.
I am a very compassionate and caring individual who loves to express affection. I give lots of hugs, hand-holding, and hand strokes when I like someone. I love to be sociable with people passing by and I’m very well known and loved by people in Devizes, which is reciprocated.
About the role:
Sharing my day by spending time on canal walks, bus spotting, drinking coffee, and enjoying the daily goings-on of my local town. I prefer a calm and positive environment to prevent over-stimulation. I need assistance with personal care (changing when required), washing my face, and help with eating certain foods. I need someone to accompany me to medical appointments when required. The role would involve you liaising with my mum, sister, and a senior member of staff, and when you start work, you will be shadowing a senior member of staff at first to see how my day is.
The kind of person I am looking for:
Upbeat, positive, calm, and caring person.
Ability to encourage and motivate me.
Sign language trained is desirable but not essential as my comprehension is good.
DBS checked or be willing to complete a DBS check before starting employment.
