Industrial Automation
Role Overview
The UK technical centre based in Lichfield is at the forefront of delivering customer led innovation and solutions for our Industrial Automation Division in the EMEA region.
The primary objective for the role will be to design and develop new products for our industrial controls market, this is a key postion within IMI and the job holder will contribute significantly to the business growth via this workstream. The role involves interacting closely with product managers and customers to deliver innovative solutions for our customers needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Conceptual design and development of new products through the internal NPD business process
* Design of industrial control components and assembliesGeneration of 3D cad models and 2D part/assembly drawings
* Writing technical reports
* Design calculations and application of advanced simulation techniques
* Creating DFMEAs
* Designing and managing Design Verification Plans
* Creating and delivering technical presentations to customers (both internal and external)
* Generating intellectual property and patent applications
* Participating in activities with cross disciplinary project teams within the region
* Supporting project managers with reporting on project progress
* Domestic and foreign travel may be required to support customer meetings and supplier visits
Critical Competencies for Success
* Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
* Diploma in Computer Aided Design and some practical experience of CAE tools (such as FEA/CFD/Moldflow) would be advantageous
* 3-5 years of component design experience with a good understanding of industrial control components or similar is required
* The candidate will have a history of designing and developing new products into a variety of sectors and industries
* Experience in mechatronics and integration of electronic components is desirable
* A sound understanding of fundamental engineering principles
* The candidate needs excellent problem solving skills and must possess and be able to show a flair for creativity and innovation
* An extensive knowledge of a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes is required
* Must be able to work on their own initiative and demonstrate excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills.
* Good written and verbal communication skills
