An opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer has become available with a leading manufacturer of specialist vehicles, in Coventry. The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will join the engineering team and will be responsible for detailed mechanical designs using 3D CAD, for the design and development of best-in-class vehicles.
This is an established SME business who have a great portfolio of products, so you can expect a variety of work as well as benefit from working on new designs for projects being launched in 2025.
Mechanical Design Engineer – Responsibilities:
1. The delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements, costs and other constraints.
2. Responsible for the conceptual development of new product solutions in the scoping phase of programmes.
3. Responsible for evaluating technical issues and develop proposals for solutions.
4. Planning, controlling and delivering assigned projects, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan, budget and costs.
5. Participate in maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures.
6. Problem solving on existing products and product improvement.
7. Preparing and delivering progress reports against project plans.
8. Keeping up to date with relevant technology developments in appropriate technical areas, developing skills and capabilities, and giving support and expertise to others as required.
9. Where required, teach and mentor apprentices and graduates in your field of expertise.
10. Support a continuous improvement culture across the Engineering team, contributing to a high performing environment.
Mechanical Design Engineer – Skills & Experience Required
1. HND or Degree qualified in a relevant mechanical engineering subject.
2. Proven background in Mechanical Design for specialist equipment and machinery.
3. Skilled in 3D CAD design using Creo Parametric, Pro Engineer, or similar 3D CAD packages.
4. Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.
5. Experience of engineering projects through full lifecycle.
6. Knowledge of whole vehicle design / heavy gauge fabrication highly desirable.
