Performing transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound scans for all types of obstetric and gynaecology scans. Reporting findings and making appropriate referrals to multidisciplinary team as well as communicating findings to patients. Performing and reporting ultrasound scans for obstetrics, including screening for nuchal translucency, anomaly, growth scans, early pregnancy and gynaecology scansWorking for our organisation The Maternity Ultrasound Department consists of a team of sonographers, 2 healthcare assistants and 2 fetal medicine specialists. The department provides ultrasound scans throughout pregnancy as well as gynaecological scans.Detailed job description and main responsibilities Formulate and issue clinical reports. To assist in training of student sonographers To promote and encourage good effective professional practices in the department by Independently undertake and interpret obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations at the main Royal Berkshire Hospital site and at satellite units. To participate in advanced clinical based practice. To use advanced clinical judgement to enable independent decision making. To assist and encourage service development and innovation. To have a professional and courteous manner and always uphold the reputation of the ultrasound department. Observe confidentiality with respect to the trust patient, staff and NHS information at all times. To participate in out of hours work as required. To undertake other duties not specified here but within the general scope and grade of the post, which may be delegated from time to time by the Lead Practitioner/Manager., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
* Extensive post graduate experience in a wide range of obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound examinations Experience of: quality and clinical audit statistical analysis teaching, training and mentoring Minimum of two years' experience in reporting of complex ultrasound, with Fetal Anomaly Screening Track record of effective staff supervision, teaching and training Participation in internal quality control and external quality assurance procedures Experience of problem solving, critical analysis and change management Skills, Knowledge & Abilities, experience of working in maternity and gynaecology unit, ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Education / Qualifications & Training Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (Obs & Gynae) Or Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound (Obs & Gynae) DQASS or FMF accreditation in 1st trimester screening Experience Postgraduate ultrasound experience Experience within a maternity unit Professional Skills IT literacy Good ultrasound skills, being able to produce high quality images and interpret their relevance Interpersonal Skills Communication: Excellent oral and written skills with patients and staff inside/outside the Trust. Team working skills: to ensure team objectives/deadlines are met. Assertive, self-confident & pro-active. Ability to work under pressure. Able to organise own work.
