Angel Hill Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join our supportive nursing team, on a part/full time basis. We are also willing to train a qualified nurse, who has some transferable skills and is willing to undertake the relevant courses required at the first opportunity after starting with us.
We are a friendly, training practice, of over 14,000 patients with 5 GP partners and 5 salaried GPs and other ACPs, such as a visiting Paramedic and Nurse Practitioner.
All applicants should have a relevant nursing qualification, current NMC registration with an active PIN. The surgery would prefer an experienced Practice Nurse, and if possible, with experience in the management of a long-term condition. However, an enthusiastic nurse willing to learn through the Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme), undertake training for asthma and COPD clinics, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, dressing and wound care would also be very much welcomed. Qualities needed for the role
* Being competent using computers, emails, knowledge of Data protection
* Competent in SystmOne or similar
* Registered Nurse and Revaluation Current
* Code of Professional Conduct (including the expanded Standards)
* Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service undertaken on condition of employment
* Hepatitis B and MMR (documented evidence)
If no record, these will be undertaken at your own surgery or at Angel Hill.
MAIN DUTIES
The successful applicant will:
* Assist in and perform routine tasks and treatment room services related to patient care as directed by the practice.
* Offer childhood and adult vaccinations, ensuring all vaccines are administered under patient group directions in accordance with current Green Book/Department of Health recommendations.
* Follow Current Patient Group Directions for the administration of vaccines.
* Be able to administer Medication via injections.
* Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
* Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
* Cervical screening, with an understanding of guidelines for re-call, HPV screening and sexual health. Including changing of Vaginal Ring Pessaries and Removal of Intrauterine contraception.
* Contraception advice and pill checks (including administration of dep-provera).
* Management of Long term conditions (LTC) such as Coronary Heart Disease, Asthma and COPD.
* Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Physical Assessments and NHS Health checks.
* Request pathology tests; urine culture, swabs when appropriate blood tests for LTC, medication reviews if required.
* Be able to deliver patient centered holistic health promotion on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise then refer accordingly.
* Be able to refer on to other agencies needed for individual patient care and liaising with The Primary Care Network (PCN) Social Prescriber when indicated.
* Manage patients in our Leg Ulcer Management Clinic on a pro rata basis. Being able to undertake Doppler assessment.
* Follow agreed personal Specific Directions with referral to GP as appropriate.
* Discuss and ensure safe travel advice and vaccinations.
* Urinalysis.
* Perform ECG’s and understand how to escalate.
* Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines, maintaining accurate and contemporaneous records at all times.
* Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical procedures with regard to Safeguarding of Children and Adults including systems of referral. Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of child abuse, domestic abuse and female genital mutilation.
* Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
* Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, maintaining The Cold Chain and emergency equipment.
* Maintaining and cleaning of equipment used.
* Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses’ and treatment rooms.
* Ordering of Health Promotion Literature and work on a rota basis to keep waiting room pin boards up to date with latest Public Health campaigns.
* You will be expected to cover other Practice Nurses absences.

HOURS
PAY
Salaries are paid directly into your bank account on the 15th monthly or the last working day prior to the 15th. Any overtime will be paid at the normal hourly rate.
CAR ALLOWANCE
There is no car allowance with this post.
PENSION
You will be automatically enrolled into the NHS Pension Scheme; if you do not wish to join, please inform the Practice Manager.
HOLIDAYS
5.6 weeks plus Bank Holidays in the first year, increasing to 6 weeks thereafter. Holidays may not normally be taken between 20th December and 5th January.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Angel Hill Surgery has a tradition of training new Nurses into Primary Care and putting these Nurses through the required training courses required for the position. The surgery will expect that the employee remain in the post during and after this training for a minimum period of time.
