Main duties of the job
Our specialist role involves supporting wards and MDTs to help manage a range of patients with differing pain conditions including both acute and chronic pain. This role involves a commitment to learning all the aspects of pain management, and a clear understanding of the differences in how we manage acute and chronic pain. We are constantly working on a vast array of projects to ensure Leeds Teaching Hospitals pain service are at the forefront of pain management, implementing a range of national and local initiatives. We have a well-established teaching programme that involves teaching to all members of health professionals in our trust, and in a variety of media.

JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will be practising as an independent specialist clinical practitioner providing patient-centred and evidence-based clinical care, within an agreed scope of competence and practice. The jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care.
The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources. The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.
The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to implement and improve the patient pathway and will be expected to develop new skills to further enhance the quality of the service delivered. Where appropriate, the role will include the day to day leadership and management.
In order to carry out the job sufficiently and effectively you will have attained and be able to provide documented confirmation of all required Acute pain team competencies for the role as detailed. Under annex 21 within 18 months of being successful in applying for this post the Non-Medical prescribing course will be completed and passed this will enable you to undertake this post. You will be supported to develop an extensive range of competencies and specialist knowledge within the discipline through extensive practical experience, in house training and structured study and will continue to develop your knowledge to the requirements of continued professional development.

* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
* Under annex 21 to have documented evidence of completion of the Non-Medical Prescribing course within 18 months of commencing this post
Experience
* Experience at band 6 which should be within a relevant specialty area during which time the following experience should have been gained:
* Clinical audit and standard setting
* Service development and or change management (desirable)
