What are we looking for?
The Geotechnical Staff Engineer is responsible for conducting Geotechnical engineering and project management services on local and/or regional projects. This position is considered entry level for Technical/Professional work in the geotechnical engineering industry. Geotechnical Staff Engineers work under close supervision of experienced professionals to complete assignments requiring application of standard geotechnical techniques, procedures, and technical criteria. They perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment under the guidance of more senior experienced professionals. The job schedule may include some nights and weekends as needed, but predominantly is performed during traditional daytime working hours.
What you'll do:
1. Perform a variety of assignments and roles that include independent evaluations using standard geotechnical techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment
2. Prepare and review Engineering reports, project plans and specifications
3. Assign, track, and manage work/tasks to staff
4. Prepare scopes, budgets, task orders, and schedules for project task assignments
5. Prepare proposals to provide professional services
6. Review recommendations with Professional Engineers, Senior Project Managers, & Principal Consultants
7. Maintain and leverage client relationships to develop new project opportunities
8. Attend client site meetings
9. Communicate effectively with client and project teams
10. Work on one or multiple projects at a time
11. Train Technicians and other Technical staff
12. May perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific tests
13. May work both in the field and laboratory occasionally
14. Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering from an accredited/ABET school is required
2. Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) and solid interpersonal skills are required
3. Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are required
4. The ability to read and understand work plans is required
5. Must be able to work off shifts as needed
6. Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record is required
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to lift, move, push, and pull to 50 pounds if needed. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
2. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
3. Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
4. Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
5. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
6. Ability to climb occasionally
Preferred Requirements and Qualifications:
1. Experience operating in a geotechnical laboratory is preferred
2. Experience operating in a DOT soils laboratory is preferred
3. Experience performing construction materials testing is preferred
4. EIT/FE Certification is highly preferred
