Job Title: Group Buyer
Reporting to: Assistant Purchasing Manager/Purchasing Manager
Location: Head Office, York
Term: Full time, Permanent (37.75 hrs)
Salary: £23-26k DOE
Company: Cyclops Group is a York based leading group of electronics companies that at its core, supplies electronic components to a range of companies worldwide.
The position: Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for a buyer at a group level to support our costing. You will be responsible for supporting the sales and purchasing teams in the sourcing and procurement of materials and services in different group functions. Our key services include procurement, logistics, supply and value-add activities, such as component assembly.
The role has both an operations and commercial focus, with one costing up a new BOM (Bill of materials) for a customer, and the next spent negotiating with an existing supplier for the best value. Reporting primarily to the Purchasing Manager, this new role is a great opportunity for a driven, commercially minded person looking for an autonomous role to join a successful family-owned and family-run business at the start of an ambitious growth plan.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maximise the team’s efficiencies across procurement, logistics and supply.
2. Day-to-day management of procurement relationships with suppliers.
3. Costing BOM’s and line items as required.
4. Source electronic components to fulfil customer requirements.
5. Cost up bills of materials identifying shortage or lead time issues and report information to the sales and customer service teams.
6. Purchase materials & services from approved suppliers against customer requirements.
7. Expedite purchase orders to ensure supplier on time delivery.
8. Set up parts and bills of material on the company ERP system maintaining accurate supplier and part information such as pricing and lead time.
9. Managing subcontractors of outsourced processes.
10. Maintain stock levels of key part numbers through monitoring of lead times, min/max levels, and customer requirements. Work closely with stores to ensure accurate stock control is maintained and resolve material shortages quickly.
11. Work with sales and customer services to offer material alternatives in cases of obsolescence or long lead times.
12. Support the purchasing team with any other administration tasks and cover for team members during absences.
Personal Attributes:
* Minimum 2 years buying experience in a distribution or manufacturing role.
* Knowledge in the electronics industry an advantage but not essential.
* Able to both work autonomously and also follow clear directions.
* Ambitious and driven to exceed expectations.
* Able to work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
* Understand exchange rates and working in multi-currency environment.
* Strong numeracy skills.
* Able to communicate clearly and competently both internally and externally.
* Use of ERP systems essential.
* Strong Excel skills.
