BMW UK, Farnborough – Legal, Compliance & Data Privacy - 13 Month Placement (July 2025)
We have several placement opportunities within our Legal, Compliance and Data Privacy teams including Legal Assistant, Compliance, Sales Compliance and Data & Privacy Protection.
Our Legal Team provides comprehensive, expert legal and associated advice, direction, and guidance to our UK Group Companies, both on campus and at other locations such as Oxford (MINI) and Chichester (Rolls-Royce Motor Cars). We actively identify and advise upon any areas of legal risk; protect, represent and maintain the wider interests and strategic objectives of BMW Group; conduct significant, high-value and/or strategic litigation/disputes; advise on corporate and organisational re-structuring; and much more! Responsibilities vary and include:
5. Work on high-value litigation – supporting our Senior Legal Counsel through research, case management (eg, Disclosure) and administrative tasks
6. Work on legal operations and innovation topics
7. Support other team members in a variety of ways, such as reviewing Non-Disclosure Agreements, compiling Bundles, legal research, drafting and preparing training materials
The Compliance Teams are responsible for ensuring the BMW Group operates within the boundaries of applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The primary objective is to support the business with legal and regulatory risks and promote responsible conduct.
8. Generating documents such as advisory documentation, compliance risk reports; reporting for the senior managers in the form of committee packs.
9. Providing independent assurance through the completion of risk assessments, thematic review and ongoing surveillance activities.
10. Own the upcoming regulations scanning process, manage the team inbox and respond to queries, and maintain the internal compliance intranet pages including frequently asked questions and answers.
The opportunity to learn about Sales Compliance giving you commercial understanding of how compliance is an important aspect of the financial services industry. You will support the ongoing oversight of our intermediaries. Covering key topics around overall governance, culture and values and sales processes. Sales Compliance monitor all our intermediaries to ensure we meet our legal and regulatory requirements. There may be some travelling involved in this position.
11. Support the Sales Compliance Team by reviewing compliance Governance, Culture and Values & Sales Processes to mitigate risks by following up on outstanding actions.
12. Involved in wider business knowledge via our Sales, Marketing, and internal and external communication.
13. Support the Sales Compliance Account Managers during retail site visits.
14. Support the Sales Governance Team by preparing information ahead of legal hearings.
15. Support the generation of updates and information provided to regional team members.
The Data & Information Protection team is responsible for guiding the business on all relevant internal and external data privacy and information protection requirements embodied in Data Protection Act 2018 and (where applicable) General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR); Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR); Binding Corporate Rules (BCR); BMW Group Information Protection framework and other associated national statutory instruments, regulations, and codes of practice. As the Data & Information Protection Intern, you will be responsible for supporting all duties relating to data and information protection team, including:
16. The oversight of data and information protection risks, data and information protection policies and procedures, training, communication, and company awareness.
17. Data and information protection incidents and breaches ensuring they are adequately recorded and mitigated.
18. Work with the business departments to ensure that Privacy by Design requirements and appropriate technical and organisational security measures are identified and implemented into all processes and systems.
19. Support with implementing BMW Group Standards for data protection, data privacy and information protection.
Qualifications & Skills:
20. Studying towards a degree with a predicted grade of 2:2 or above, in a relevant field such as Law, Business, Social Sciences and Finance.
21. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
22. High attention to detail and accuracy.
23. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
24. A self-starter with the ability to work on their own initiative.
25. Flexible and adaptable individual.
26. Enthusiastic, passionate with a curiosity to learn and succeed.
27. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
