Role Summary
The Head of Project Delivery is responsible for leading the project delivery team while also directly managing a small portfolio of projects within the UK onshore gas industry. This role ensures that all projects—whether directly managed or overseen—are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
In addition to team leadership and strategic resource planning, this role involves hands-on project management, risk oversight, subcontractor management and financial control. The successful candidate will be a strong leader and mentor, capable of driving best practices, optimising project execution and maintaining excellent client relationships.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management:
* Lead, manage and develop the Project Delivery Team (Project Managers and Project Support Lead).
* Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Manage team workload, approve leave requests and resolve resource conflicts.
* Provide mentorship, coaching and career development opportunities.
* Oversee project portfolio performance, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
* Ensure efficient department operations, optimising resources and project execution.
Project Management Responsibilities (Direct Portfolio):
* Personally manage a small portfolio of projects, ensuring successful delivery.
* Define project scope, objectives and deliverables in line with customer requirements.
* Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules and budgets.
* Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring smooth project execution.
* Liaise with internal teams (Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing) to ensure efficient project progress.
* Monitor and control costs, ensuring profitability and timely invoicing.
* Provide regular progress updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
Project Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management:
* Ensure the successful delivery of all projects, meeting commercial, contractual and quality targets.
* Assess and oversee project risks across the department, ensuring Project Managers identify, document and address risks within their projects.
* Compile departmental risk assessments and escalate critical risks, trends and mitigation strategies to the Senior Management Team.
* Develop and track KPIs to ensure projects align with company objectives.
* Champion best practices in project management, ensuring scope creep, emerging costs and variations are effectively managed.
Subcontractor & Supply Chain Management:
* Ensure subcontract packages are properly managed, including contract scope, performance, cost and compliance.
* Work with the Procurement team to ensure subcontractors meet quality, safety and delivery requirements.
* Ensure Project Managers effectively monitor subcontractor performance and escalate any issues proactively.
* Verify that subcontractor payments, change orders and contract variations are managed effectively.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
* Act as the primary interface between Sales, Project Delivery, Design and Manufacturing.
* Manage customer expectations throughout the entire project lifecycle.
* Facilitate cross-department collaboration to maximise efficiency and resource utilisation.
Financial & Commercial Management:
* Ensure budget control, forecasting and cost management on all projects.
* Manage change orders and contract variations, ensuring financial viability.
* Oversee invoicing, milestone payments and project cash flow.
Compliance & Safety:
* Ensure all projects align with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (QHSE) standards.
* Embed risk management into the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in project delivery, ideally within the engineering or gas industry.
* Proven experience managing a department, including leadership of multiple project teams.
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience using project scheduling tools (MS Project or similar).
* Project management certification (Prince2, PMP, APM preferred).
* HND/Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying or a related field.
* Experience managing subcontractors and supply chain relationships.
