An excellent developmental opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager position on Cedars Ward specialising in functional older adult mental health care based at Bloxwich Hospital.
This is a fantastic opportunity to continue or develop your management and leadership skills within Older Adults Mental Health and to support junior staff in delivering high-quality care within our dementia inpatient service. The post holder will provide leadership for the ward and work in close collaboration with the ward manager as part of the leadership and management structures that are in place to ensure high-quality care throughout the patient pathway.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited from experienced nurses with relevant experience to support and lead our service as part of the ward management team. You should be motivated, forward-thinking in your approach, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Flexibility and a willingness to learn are essential in this challenging environment.
You will be leading and managing a team that has high levels of training compliance, good support systems, and low levels of complaints.

Detailed job responsibilities
* Work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
* Engage proactively with patients and families/carers
* Demonstrate high-level clinical expertise and act as a role model
* Participate in Mental Health Act assessments and understand the Mental Capacity Act
* Manage medicines effectively and develop risk management plans
* Support Band 5 staff as a named nurse and coordinate care
* Monitor patient well-being and maintain confidentiality
* Maintain clinical records and ensure safety standards
* Lead quality improvement initiatives and support evidence-based practice
* Support team development through supervision and training
* Ensure documentation compliance and effective communication
* Develop nursing practice through research and audits
* Maintain professional registration and portfolio
* Handle professional concerns appropriately
* Act as a positive role model and promote non-discriminatory care
* Engage with patients regarding their concerns and participate in performance reviews
* Attend mandatory training and work rotational shifts including nights and weekends
* Support the ward team with staffing and rotas, manage staff sickness, and deputise for the Ward Manager
* Manage time effectively, prioritize demands, and address patient concerns promptly
* Prepare reports following serious untoward incidents and stay informed on national policy initiatives
