An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cancer Services. If you have experience in Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders and cancer this could be a great learning and development opportunity for you.
The Associate Upper GI cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist will assist in providing a supportive cancer nursing service within the hospital. You will work with the Upper GI Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to ensure optimal care, which will extend to the patients, carers and their families.
Main duties of the job
* To provide information and support to all suspected cancer patients within this specialty and ensure continuity of care through diagnosis and treatment.
* To provide specialist advice and act as an educational resource.
* To participate in the continuing education of the multi-professional health care team in all aspects of Upper GI cancer.
* To facilitate innovative and evidence-based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.
* To participate in clinical audit undertaken in relation to Upper GI cancer and the ongoing service development with the support and supervision of the Upper GI cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Person specification
Qualifications
* NMC professional registration
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Possesses a BSc in nursing or evidence of qualifications at this level.
* Evidence of education in a related health care area
* Advanced communication skills course
* Evidence of achievement of Fundamentals of Cancer or equivalent
* Leadership/management course
Experience
* Relevant post registration experience with some experience in cancer and/or Upper GI.
* Evidence of participation in audit and implementation of change.
* Evidence of teaching and supporting professional development of others within the clinical environment.
* Evidence of supporting improvement in the patient experience.
* Evidence of management and leadership responsibility, such as being in charge of a ward/unit and/or line management.
Knowledge
* Demonstrate an understanding of current developments in cancer care and Upper GI.
* Ability to apply evidence base to deliver high quality clinical care within scope of practice.
* Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and risk assessment/management.
* Knowledge of infection control issues.
* Demonstrate the ability to utilise current research findings in practice.
* An understanding of the strategic aims for cancer.
Personal Skills
* Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in patient management.
* Effective communication both written and verbal.
