Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a Student Support Officer to join one of our partner secondary schools in Newport. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for someone looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people.

About the Role
As a Student Support Officer, you’ll be part of the school’s Inclusion Team, working closely with staff and students to promote positive behaviour and create a supportive learning environment. You’ll work 1:1 with students who require behavioural support and help implement the school’s behaviour management strategy.

Key Responsibilities
* Work with students displaying disruptive behaviour in the Student Support Centre (SSC)
* Provide 1:1 support and a calm, structured learning environment
* Act as a liaison between students and teaching staff
* Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion at all times
* Use initiative to work independently and collaboratively
* Support and contribute to the school's performance management process

Qualifications & Experience
* NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or 6+ months of relevant experience
* Strong behaviour management and conflict resolution skills
* Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures
* Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

Job Requirements
* Enhanced DBS check on the Child Workforce Register (or willingness to apply)
* Registration with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)
* Two recent professional references (covering the last 24 months)
