Key Responsibilities
As a Scrub Nurse working in the NHS, you will play a vital role in ensuring safe and efficient surgical procedures. Your responsibilities will include:
• Preparation of the Operating Theatre: Ensuring all equipment, instruments, and consumables are sterile and ready for use, adhering to infection control protocols.
• Instrument Handling: Providing the surgeon with the necessary instruments, swabs, and materials during procedures, maintaining strict aseptic techniques.
• Patient Safety: Monitoring and maintaining patient safety throughout the surgical procedure, ensuring accurate surgical counts (e.g., instruments, swabs) to avoid retained items.
• Team Collaboration: Working closely with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthetists, and operating department practitioners, to provide seamless care.
• Record Keeping: Accurately documenting the details of procedures, including patient information, equipment usage, and surgical outcomes.
• Emergency Response: Remaining calm and confident in managing intraoperative emergencies, such as unexpected bleeding or equipment failure.
• Aftercare and Handover: Assisting with patient transfers to recovery areas and ensuring comprehensive handovers to post-operative teams.
• Compliance with NHS Standards: Adhering to policies on health and safety, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
What We’re Looking For
• NMC Registration: Current and valid.
• Experience: Minimum of 6 months in an NHS theatre setting.
• Right to Work: Must be eligible to work in the UK.
• Skills:
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Excellent communication, particularly under pressure.
• A meticulous eye for detail and commitment to patient safety.
