We have an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial Technician to manage archaeological, geoarchaeological, earth science, environmental geo-spatial technical aspects of the UKRI-funded Land Use for Net Zero project Rapid Engagement with Stressed Peatland Environments and Communities in Transformation “RESPECT” (PI – Prof Jill Robbie), Work Package 1: Peatland Through Space and Time. You would be part of a team based mainly at the University of Glasgow. The position is based in Glasgow, working with Prof Nicki Whitehouse (line manager) and Dr Adrian Bass. Our project aims to produce new thinking and transdisciplinary research outputs to facilitate landholders to undertake peatland restoration on agricultural land and reduce carbon emissions through land use change. This post will work to establish the current and future physical capacity of land in the case study regions (the Forth and Humber catchments) to contribute to net zero, and prioritise areas for peatland restoration. You will provide specialist technical expertise in geospatial analysis, including field data collection and analyses in the case study regions. You will have experience and familiarity with standard GIS software, such as QGIS, ArcGIS, and be familiar with a range of geospatial data types and manipulating these within software; you should be experienced with handling and analysing LiDAR data; drone and GPS survey; running simple landscape, hydrological or catchment scale carbon cycling models under the direction of the research team. Familiarity with coding languages such as R and Python will be an advantage. You will be responsible for the creation and operation of the geospatial technical resources to aid the delivery of research objectives. In addition, you will assist with fieldwork within the case study regions, especially auger survey and collection of field samples and undertake a range of support activities in line with the needs of the Work Package. This post is full time and fixed term until 31 July 2027 (with a possibility of further extension of 5 months).
