The role
Are you an experienced Welder ready for your next adventure? As a Welder, you'll be working on Royal Navy submarines, playing a vital part in the security of our nation. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be crucial in ensuring the production of components necessary for the maintenance and modification of submarines and naval vessels.
Key Aspects of the Role:
* Primarily work on submarines, contributing to their maintenance and modification.
* Engage in welding tasks on ships and within a factory setting.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings to execute precise welding tasks using the required tools and machinery.
* Adhere to established welding protocols and safety regulations.
* Identify and report potential welding issues for corrective action.
* Ensure the quality of your welds through meticulous record-keeping and compliance with quality control procedures.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth.
Essential experience of the Welder:
* Knowledge of Flux Core (FCAW) and Manual Metal Arc (MMA).
* Ability to read engineering drawings, interpret work instructions, and be competent in the use of general workshop tools and machinery specific to welding.
* Ideally, you will have worked in the marine engineering industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships - although other relevant experience from other engineering sectors will be considered.
* Experience working within a marine engineering environment.
Qualifications for the Welder:
* Time served apprentice within the field of marine engineering/naval engineering environment, or apprenticeship relevant to the role.
* Level 3 Engineering qualification relevant to the role, although we would consider Level 2 candidates with extensive experience.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
