Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic phlebotomist to join an established phlebotomy and nursing team at Good Hope Hospital's Haematology and Oncology Chemotherapy Day Unit. This is an interesting post requiring a caring person with proficient communication, good interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure and basic key board skills. It is essential that the successful candidate will have had recent clinical experience of undertaking phlebotomy within the last six months. They are expected to complete our local training and competence assessments following appointment. The role requires a flexible approach to duties and the ability to remain calm in a busy environment. An essential requirement of the post is the ability to work as part of a team, without direct supervision and to deal with patients in a confidential, professional and sensitive manner. The post holder will be based at Good Hope Haematology Day unit. The core hours are between 08:00 and 16:00 Tuesday-Friday. Main duties of the job The main duties will include working in the phlebotomy room taking peripheral blood tests from a range of patients looked after by the Haematology/ Oncology Day Unit. Blood tests will be performed in line with infection control measures, and the candidate will demonstrate an awareness of PPE and H&S when handling sharps and blood samples. We will require record keeping and analysis of blood results. In house training will be given in using the relevant analysing equipment. The candidate is expected to manage their own workload, which is assigned at the beginning of each working day. The successful candidate will also need to communicate with relevant MDT members, to ensure effective treatment planning to manage the patient's medical needs.
