Nexus is looking to appoint a Signalling Apprentice within the Rail Infrastructure Maintenance department.
As part of this 4-year apprentice programme, you’ll play a central role in maintaining the Signalling equipment that helps keep the Tyne and Wear Metro moving safely. The role will involve assisting with the maintenance, repair and technical fault diagnosis of the Nexus Signalling & Point Heating equipment, systems and associated Service Supply Infrastructure. The role is varied, and you will come across challenges and under guidance, will approach with a problem-solving attitude in order to keep our passengers moving. We’re looking for an individual who enjoys a challenge, who thrives in a team environment and who will enjoy a hands-on role.
You will work towards a Level 3 Engineering Fitter qualification as well as specific in-house signalling and electrical training. This is a unique opportunity to gain general electrical knowledge alongside specific rail and signalling knowledge. Whilst precise details are to be confirmed, it is expected that successful candidate will study on a period of block release with an engineering training provider for an initial duration, followed by day release for 2 years whilst working the remaining working days gaining practical hands-on experience in a practical environment. The role is predominantly site-based to maximise the learning opportunities. Whilst this may entail working in all-weathers you will be provided with the relevant attire to work comfortably and safely.
The final 4 months of apprenticeship will consist of completing an End Point Assessment (EPA), successful completion of all elements of the apprenticeship standard will result in the awarding of a certificate of completion.
