An excellent opportunity has arisen for a friendly, caring and motivated individual to join the Trust in the key role of a Porter at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. Integral to the smooth running of the hospital and its services, the successful candidate will work as part of a team delivering a comprehensive and patient-focused service. No two days will be the same and you will enjoy the chance to work with a wide range of colleagues, patients and their families as you go about your duties across the hospital site. We'll rely on you to provide a number of crucial services, including patient transfer between wards and departments, moving equipment, mail, case notes, specimens, handling and changing of medical gas cylinders, linen and furniture, waste handling, as required.
Main duties of the job
* Will be expected to work on a rotational basis and cover all shifts when required which includes weekends and bank holidays.
* Provide a professional service to patients, visitors and staff at all times.
* To escort the deceased to the mortuary and release bodies where applicable including deceased with barrier nursing, MRSA and other contagious diseases.
* To provide a pleasant and helpful patient escort service throughout the site.
* To maintain a good working relationship with fellow staff.
* To assist Security where directed.
* To assist in emergency situations when requested, fire, major incident etc.
* Ad/hoc duties as requested by supervision or management which includes the changing or lowering of the union flag.
* Complete all necessary mandatory and on the job training required for all new staff.

Leadership and Improvement Training
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff. This training programme has been designed to support our staff in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the following training sessions:
Service Improvement for Beginners. After you complete these one and a half days of training, you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.
