Join the Urban Ventures Internship Program as a Youth Mentoring Intern and gain valuable skills while creating tangible change in your community in a paid role.
Job Summary:
The Youth Mentoring Intern will help plan and run the flow of programming nights. In addition to directly mentoring youth, the Youth Mentoring Intern will assist the director with additional elements of the program, gaining a comprehensive understanding of what goes into running a transformative youth program in the process.
Responsibilities:
1. In partnership with the Youth Mentoring Director, plan and execute youth mentoring program nights.
2. Directly mentor one or more Youth Mentoring participants.
3. Assist with recruiting additional youth participants.
4. Assist with participant transportation (pick-up and drop-off).
5. Plan and facilitate Youth Mentoring field trips for fun and career exploration.
6. Learn how to develop and maintain appropriate boundaries and self-differentiation when working with youth.
7. Support the Youth Mentoring Director with administrative tasks.
8. Communicate with parents about programming logistics, their children, and general information on youth development and support.
9. Participate in all internship program trainings and supervisory sessions.
10. Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and a professional code of ethics.
Education and Experience:
1. In process of achieving a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Youth Ministry, or related field.
2. Experience serving in ministry, especially with youth.
Requirements:
1. Ability to motivate, teach, guide, and lead children/youth in a positive manner.
2. Flexibility.
3. Fluency in Spanish and understanding of Latino culture and/or urban cultural diversity is helpful, but not required.
4. Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
5. Willing to commit to a consistent schedule.
6. Ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision.
7. Clear and concise written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
8. Provide own transportation.
9. Ability to work in an urban environment, with a diverse group of youth.
Pay:
1. $17.50/hour.
