Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Technician (Plumbing) to join the busy and vibrant London Estates Maintenance Department at West London NHS Trust.
The post holder will provide multi-skilled trades to operate, maintain and service plant or equipment within the scope of the role at all London sites as required.
Provide technical support, advice and instruction to other maintenance staff and contractors.
Carry out work activities which are both routine and non-routine. Carry out new works, repairs and routine planned maintenance activities to mechanical and heating, hot and cold water plant, equipment and services, and building related works, as directed at all London sites. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, Trust standards, policies and procedures.
Provide and receive routine information to inform work colleagues, patients, and clients. Communicate and explain technical issues to other staff, clients and patients as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
Carry out work appropriate to specialist skills and with the help of training where appropriate to acquire elements of other trade skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform the following:
1. Service, test, diagnose and repair faults in installations, plant and equipment with respect to mechanical and plumbing services as well as relevant electrical and electronic services (as appropriate to the level of competencies for the post).
2. To deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
3. Understand the working of electrical, electronic, mechanical and plumbing systems in all areas.
4. Carry out analytical and problem solving techniques and document results.
5. Work in accordance with the requirements of HTM’s, HBN’s, Model Specifications, relevant Statutory Regulations, Codes of Practice, Building Regulations, British Standards and Trust Policies.
6. Ability to use fine tools and equipment.
7. Plan work; prepare schedules of materials and parts, using O & M manuals where appropriate, to effect repairs and / or maintenance.
8. Carry out reactive work requests, minor new work requests and weekly planned preventative maintenance dockets efficiently, to performance targets and with minimum disruption to staff and patients.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Minimum NVQ Level 3 in plumbing, refrigeration or mechanical services. Specialized in a mechanical service (i.e. Gas, refrigeration, heat pumps). Water safety Training.
Experience
* Extensive experience in mechanical, ventilation or gas installations and maintenance. Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision. Worked within NHS environment.
Other
* Ability to interact at all levels.
* Flexibility and adaptability.
* Site based, primarily UB1 but candidate may be asked to attend to other London sites.
* Satisfactory attendance to work 8-16:30 M to T and 8-16 F.
* Work to deadlines and may be required at any London site.
* May be required to participate in the Department’s out of hours on call system.
