The Neurology Nurse Specialist will undertake telephone advice clinics. The Neurology Nurse specialist will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, integrating with all relevant specialities and personnel. The Nurse Specialist will be responsible for establishing patient and carer interventions and developing services to meet their needs in close conjunction with the Lead Consultant. You will be accountable for your own professional actions, not directly supervised.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide assessment of people with Long term neurological conditions considering other co-morbidities that may be present, and provide a comprehensive nursing assessment, plan care and evaluate interventions according to the changing health needs of the patient.
2. Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records.
3. Involve patients/carers and relatives in the planning and delivery of care.
4. Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
5. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives.
6. To be empathetic and reassuring when communicating highly sensitive condition related information and advice to patients, carers and relatives.
7. Provide expert advice and clinical practice by varying methods of communication and professionals across health and social services.

* Broad range of clinical experience and experience in speciality or related area
* Evidence of ongoing/recent post registration development
* Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
* Experience in the supervision of junior nursing staff
* Ability to undertake and participate in audit and research relevant to service needs.
* Experience in clinical audit / benchmarking
Skills & Attributes
* Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding
