Your New Role, What's involved?
We are seeking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning team in Wales, based in either our Cardiff or Wrexham offices. The typical day-to-day responsibilities include the following:
* Managing a broad range of transport planning projects, with responsibility for project team management and collaboration, budgeting, programming and technical excellence.
* Making an active contribution to four key pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and supporting our Pillar Leads in these roles.
* Identifying and grasping further opportunities with existing clients.
* Supporting Project Managers and Directors in the preparation of bids, fee proposals and project programmes.
* Attending and presenting at internal and external technical knowledge sharing events.
* Supervising Graduates, Assistants and Transport Planners in undertaking technical tasks and coaching them in acquiring new skills.
* Working in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields.
* Working as part of a team, supporting the growth of our Mobility team in Wales.
* Being present in the office (hybrid working) alongside colleagues to help develop and coach junior members of staff.
YOUR TEAM
Our Wales Mobility team includes transport planning, modelling and engineering professionals who work on an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross sector projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This includes a range of WelTAGs, active travel solutions, transport strategies, and Government funding applications, master planning, access support and development planning. These projects are generally located within Wales, but support is also provided to other schemes across the UK and internationally whilst working closely with our planning, infrastructure design, structures and environmental teams.
Our local and regional pipeline of work is extensive, and the successful applicant will help us to deliver a challenging and exciting pipeline of work for a range of regional clients including Local Authorities but also private developers.
You will be supported by senior members of the Mobility team and by our virtual UK wide specialist teams, including industry leading experts. We embrace a flexible approach to working that aligns with people’s lifestyles and wider commitments and the well being of our employees is of utmost importance to us.
Our multi-disciplinary Cardiff office has approximately 100 desks and is ideally located in the city centre, a 10-minute walk to Cardiff Central and/or Queen Street railway stations and the city centre. Although smaller, our Wrexham office is also multi-disciplinary, is a 15-20 minute walk from Wrexham General Station, and has car parking available.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
* Experience in active travel, public transport, scheme development, WelTAG / business case development, transport studies, strategies and appraisals.
* Experience in contributing to and preparing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans and providing design advice to developers and architects.
* Experience in the preparation of EIA Transport Chapters.
* The ability to work at both strategic and detailed levels is highly desirable. Up to date knowledge on latest transport policies and legislations (i.e. Well-being of Future Generations Act), Welsh Government and local authority design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, Active Travel Act Guidance) and planning processes applicable to the UK, particularly within Wales.
* Strong numerical and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools, excel spreadsheets, transport data analysis and presentation and transportation software including TRICS and junction modelling programmes (Junctions 10 and LinSig).
* Ability to produce technical project and non-technical public reports and presentations for a range of clients and stakeholders to a high technical standard.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate confidently with clients, stakeholders, team members and present at meetings, workshops and public forums.
* Project management experience, with the ability to review client briefs and tenders, develop and contribute to fee proposals and lead project delivery including supervising workloads, task delegation, supporting junior staff and managing client expectations.
* Have a sound commercial awareness including effective financial management.
