Inspire Hadleigh Youth Centre, Hadleigh, Ipswich, IP7 5AP Youth and Community Worker Full Time Up to £26,377 pro-rata 37.5 hours per week Permanent Reference: 0956 Your role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting young people in their personal and social development. This role involves delivering quality youth work which engages young people, through informal learning opportunities that provide support, direction and empower participants to achieve their potential. Responsibilities 1. Lead, and participate in, youth & community work sessions, including, but not limited to, drop-in sessions, mobile youth work, 1-2-1s, assemblies, meetings, and other activities to support young people. This may include evening and weekend sessions where required. 2. Provide individual support, mentorship, and coaching, primarily in schools, to facilitate setting appropriate goals to address the individual’s needs. 3. Facilitate social, emotional, physical and education development, which addresses needs of young people and supports them to develop the skills and confidence to make decisions and act on issues that affect their own lives, the lives of others, their communities and society. 4. Empower young people, through one-to-one and group work, to establish goals, and signpost them to other agencies who can offer additional support where required, enabling them to overcome challenges. 5. Organise and/or participate in community-based projects which provide young people with avenues to express themselves, raise concerns, and discuss their aspirations. 6. Run programmes of support to enable young people to make choices about their present and future options regarding education, training, health, employment, drugs & alcohol, sex, and social situations. 7. Ensure that young people’s voices are at the centre of our decision-making about the direction and delivery of youth work. 8. Support young people to become leaders, helping them gain influence over issues they are concerned about in their community. 9. Contribute to our understanding of the local community, assessing needs and supporting our research, to facilitate the development of new projects. 10. Maintain a good understanding of the local area, including networking with local organisations, businesses, and community contacts in your area. 11. Being a point of contact for local young people, referral partners, parents/guardians, and other support agencies. Where required, represent the organisation at stakeholder meetings and events. 12. Continually build knowledge of external courses, programmes, and agencies, to aid your knowledge of signposting opportunities. 13. Support with the preparation of staff rotas and supervise sessional youth workers and volunteers, where required. 14. Ensure day-to-day programme resources are maintained, making purchases for activities in line within agreed limits and processes. 15. Work collaboratively alongside other Inspire teams to support delivery, promotion, and fundraising if needed. 16. Ensure the safety and engagement of all participants, including responding to young people’s challenging behaviour in line with pre-agreed codes of conduct. 17. Ensure that youth work activities are safe and all young people are treated with respect, differences are valued, and acceptance and understanding of others are promoted. 18. Keep internal systems up to date daily including the Views and Outcomes Star systems to record young people’s journey, alongside other data entry required as part of the role. 19. Adhere to health, safety, safeguarding and data protection guidelines, and ensure these are prioritised as part of the planning and delivery of sessions. A full driving licence and enhanced DBS is a requirement of this role.
