Job summary Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. We are looking for an experienced phlebotomist to work 2 days per week, doing 4 hour clinics per day (8 hours in total). Clinics would be booked appointments, and we are open for discussions on appointment timing. Main duties of the job The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample b. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols c. Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples. e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies f. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner g. Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff h. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to: a. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead. b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care c. Support and participate in shared learning within the practice About us Aughton Surgery has 4 partners (3 GP's and 1 Practice Manager), 3 Salaried GP's, 1 Physician Associate, 1 Practice Nurse, 1 HCA and 1 Clinical Pharmacist. We are also a training practice, so we regularly have GP registrars, medical students and student physician associates as part of our team as well.
