Primary Objectives
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to undertake electrical design tasks as projects designated by your supervisor. Carry out detailed design and calculations in accordance with industry guides. Assist in preparing specifications, reports, and drawings to the design program. Oversee project site works snagging and testing. Become an integral part of the design team, taking responsibility and ownership for elements of design production while supporting the team's common goal.
Responsibilities
In the role of Senior Electrical Engineer, we'll count on you to:
* Design, manage, and supervise projects, establish client briefs, technical requirements, scope of works, and provide information for cost plans as agreed with the project lead.
* Understand and deliver to agreed deadlines i.e., reports, specifications, and drawings to meet project requirements.
* Agree on the level of service and project design duties with your Line Manager for each project, understanding the relationship with the fee.
* Assist the project lead with monitoring engineering/CAD & REVIT resource requirements for each project within your control.
* Carry out concept design to detailed design through to tender and completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved.
* Liaise with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard. Provide a positive contribution to design/project meetings. Maintain regular 'in-house' design reviews and checks.
* Monitor and control project progress and design variations.
* Monitor contract staff or third-party appointments.
* Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
* Pursue new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.
* When acting as design team leader, coordinate with other project disciplines.
* Assist the Line Manager with identifying and implementing your personal training/CPD requirements.
* Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on all projects.
* Implement Company Health and Safety. Ensure all designs respond to the CDM regulations.
* Implement requirements for ISO9001 & ISO14001.
* Manage Electrical Design throughout all design stages.
Preferred Skills and Experience
* BEng, MSc, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services (Working towards CEng status desirable).
* Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in designing and managing projects within a design consultancy.
* Demonstrate experience and knowledge of Investment Banks, Financial Institutions, Trading Environments, and Office Cat B and bespoke fit-out of workplace spaces including the application of Electrical Engineering Services within these institutions and environments.
* Demonstrate experience and application of mission critical, firefighting, and life safety systems power engineering and multiple levels of resilience including earthing, HV, and LV protection systems.
* Demonstrate experience and application of secondary and tertiary standby systems including UPS and standby generation.
* Demonstrate experience and application of Electrical Engineering disciplines including but not limited to Building Distribution Systems comprising Switchgear, Cabling and Containment; Lighting and Lighting Control; Small Power with emphasis on resilience to mission critical applications; Fire Protective Services; Security Systems; and Lightning Protection Systems.
* Demonstrate experience of liaising and negotiating with, and working alongside General and Subcontractors, and Specialist Contractors/Installers.
* Experienced user of industry-standard design software (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, Revit, Bluebeam, etc).
* Design to REVIT and AutoCAD and ability to work closely with Drafters and Modellers is necessary.
* Able to undertake computer modeling organization and direct the production of CAD (Navisworks, Revit) drawings and correspond effectively with opposite numbers with other consultants.
* Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
* Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.
* Experience of monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments.
* Understanding in project managing ongoing jobs with limited supervision.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
* A minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
* Professional Engineer (PE) license.
* Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting, and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems.
* Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
