Job Introduction
BBC Scotland delivers local, regional and national services each day on TV, radio and online, to audiences across Scotland and the UK as a whole. BBC News Online Scotland's Glasgow & West reporter will form part of a hard-working team of journalists from a variety of backgrounds and ages who, together, pride themselves on delivering the best content for our website and social media platforms.
The role will require a journalist who is passionate about telling stories from across a patch which comprises Glasgow, Ayrshire, Inverclyde, Argyll and Bute, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire.
Main Responsibilities
* You will be responsible for sourcing, researching and writing news stories and features from across the Glasgow and the West patch.
* It is preferable that you can drive and be able to travel around this big population centre to report on stories and interview contributors.
* You could be dispatched with little notice to breaking news stories and be expected to adjust to whatever circumstances you find yourself in.
* You will work with other online journalists and newsroom reporters, correspondents and editors.
* You will write a range of stories - from breaking news and people-focused features to those with complex and data-rich themes - to tight deadlines.
* You will be able to use a smartphone to take images and videos to accompany your stories.
* In this role you will need to understand the importance of impartiality, have editorial experience and sound judgement.
* You will communicate well with the wider BBC Scotland news operation and contribute ideas in editorial and project meetings.
* When speaking to members of the public and responding to feedback from our audience you will be courteous, clear and understand you are representing the best the BBC can be.
Are you the right candidate?
* You will be part of a team producing content for our main Scotland index; plus the Glasgow and West page which covers stories from Scotland's biggest city, multiple towns and small island communities.
* A good knowledge of the Glasgow and the West region, as well as Scotland and its institutions, is vital to carrying out this role to a high standard.
* We are looking for someone who can handle the pressure of breaking news and be assured in delivering unrivalled content which is both accurate and speedy.
* You will need to be comfortable and confident that at times you will be working early and late in a small online team.
* You will need to be adaptable to the ever-growing demands of a digital working environment, embracing technological change and be quick to understand the latest trends in delivering news.
