At Jam Coding Worcestershire/Herefordshire, we are a small and growing company who are passionate about inspiring young people to use technology for positive benefits. Our aim is to help young people understand the endless possibilities and opportunities that computational thinking and skills represent. We provide structured and exciting sessions in a growing number of schools throughout Worcestershire/Herefordshire and we are now looking for passionate head coaches to meet this increasing demand from these new schools.
This role would suit a Retired Teacher, Trainee Teacher, Teaching Assistant, Trainee Teaching assistant, students studying towards early years care qualifications, computing students, or anyone passionate about helping children.
What is a head coach?
A head coach is responsible for leading the sessions at our clubs. They will work with the assistant coach to deliver exciting, engaging, and educational workshops for students in primary schools. It is important for the head coach to be confident in dealing with a class of around 24 students and must be enthusiastic about engaging them in what they're learning.
Experience or in-depth knowledge of computing or teaching is not essential as full training is provided. However, a passion for working with kids and an understanding of computing are what we look for in the best head coaches!
Responsibilities
The main responsibility of the head coach is to deliver and lead the session. You will work with an assistant coach to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and educational session. As a head coach, you will be teaching the class and will be responsible for delivering our ready-made lesson plans, but will be able to personalise this to the needs of the class.
Lesson resources and equipment will be your responsibility for every session. This includes ensuring the register is taken, laptops are ready for use, and teaching resources are organised. You will be given a tablet or laptop that will allow you access to everything you need for every session.
You will need to take initiative on safeguarding responsibilities such as attendance and taking students to be picked up by parents. It is important to be able to arrive on time at the schools and be organised with what is being taught.
Everything you do will be supported by an assistant coach. But you will need to be able to take the lead on all aspects of the session.
Qualifications
Experience and qualifications are not essential for this role. We provide extensive training and continuous support for the right candidate to help them grow in their role. A background in tech or education will be beneficial, but what is important in this role is a passion for working with kids and teaching vital skills.
We are happy to ascertain a DBS on behalf of the candidate as this is essential for working in schools. (We pay for this if you stay for longer than 6 months.)
Working at Jam Coding
The core hours are 3 - 5 PM. Each session is 1 hour, and you will be paid for 2 hours, to account for preparation, setting up, and tidying away. The role is part-time. We aim to send you to schools nearby to you, and keep you at the same schools for consistency.
