Applications are welcomed for a highly motivated Consultant in Anaesthetics based at Furness General Hospital.
The hospital is part of a trust of 5 site bases with intensive care departments on 2 of its larger sites and theatres on 3 of the 5 sites. You will predominantly be based at the Furness General Hospital. You will join a department of 8 Consultants with several Specialists, Specialty Doctors and ACCP's. Depending upon your clinical skills, the successful candidate could have the opportunity to work in main theatres covering maternity, gynaecology, orthopaedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT while also attending our Westmorland General Hospital that focuses primarily on Elective Surgery.
Furness General Hospital is a lovely, friendly district general hospital based in South Cumbria close to the Lake District. Access to good transport links allows for easy reach to many northern cities where you will find a wealth of shops, restaurants, museums and galleries close by.

Main duties of the job
* You will participate in a 1:8 Consultant of the week model, including prospective cover covering Obstetrics and emergency theatres.
* You will join a team of 8 Consultants with several Specialists and Specialty Doctors supporting all general services of the hospital including a busy Accident and Emergency department, Theatres covering maternity, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic and trauma, ophthalmology and ENT.
* On-call shifts provide non-residential cover of Obstetrics and emergency theatres, supervising a dedicated resident anaesthetist.
* Lead Assessments of the deteriorating patient for emergency admission to the Intensive Care Unit.
* Lead the team in managing pre and post operative theatre admissions.
* Participate in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement.
* Demonstrate evidence-based practice where appropriate.
* Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning.

* Experience in the management of Trauma and other surgical emergencies
