Join to apply for the Consultant in Learning Disabilities role at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS FT.
At Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, we provide a wide range of mental health, learning disabilities, substance misuse, forensic, and specialist services across Sheffield.
Some of our specialist services, such as our autism, eating disorders, and gender identity clinics, support people across South Yorkshire and nationally. Every year we support around 55,000 people with their mental, physical, and social care needs. We have an annual budget of around £153.7 million and employ more than 2,600 members of staff.
As a Foundation Trust, we provide specialist healthcare and support for adults with learning disabilities and their families. To achieve the best outcomes for people, we work closely alongside professionals in primary, secondary, and acute care, social services, and the independent sector. Working closely with our service users and their carers is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to work in partnership with our local community and have strong ties with Sheffield City Council, voluntary, charity, and community organisations, and other NHS organisations.
We are a designated teaching trust and have strong ties with the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, and other education organisations working in the region. As a teaching trust, we are also committed to research and have an active network of clinicians who have a fantastic track record in research.
The post holder will, as part of the multi-disciplinary Community Learning Disability Teams, work towards addressing and supporting the health, psychological, emotional, and behaviour needs of adults with a learning disability who have complex physical and emotional health needs. The post holder will be expected to be a strong advocate for people with a Learning Disability and have an awareness of health inequalities faced by people with a Learning Disability. The Community Learning Disability Service currently consists of the Community Intensive Support Service and Community Learning Disability Team and works across Sheffield. The service aims to provide high-quality care for service users and works with multiple services and agencies including primary care, mainstream mental health services, social care, and voluntary, community organisations and social enterprises (VCSEs). This appointment is for a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist in the Learning Disabilities team (10 sessions). This is a community post only. The successful applicant will work closely with other professionals in the Learning Disability service as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and also closely with other Consultant Psychiatrists across the Trust as required.
