Position: Senior Accounts Assistant
Location: Kings Cross / Highbury & Islington, London
Salary: £40K - £46K
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, starting in May.
About the Role
Our client, a well-established and highly respected company, is seeking a Senior Accounts Assistant to join their established Finance Department. You will play a crucial role in supporting the FD, ensuring the smooth and efficient management of financial processes. You will also be responsible for overseeing a small team of 2 Accounts Assistants, helping to drive performance and accuracy across the department.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in setting and monitoring the annual budget, ensuring financial targets are met.
* Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports, including management accounts and cash flow analysis.
* Oversee VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
* Manage debtors' reports and conduct weekly credit control procedures.
* Liaise with auditors and provide necessary financial documentation.
* Review work-in-progress reports to track financial performance on projects.
* Prepare monthly project-related financial reports for Directors and the Head of Finance & Operations.
* Supervise and support Accounts Assistants, conducting performance reviews where necessary.
* Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash, and ensure the accuracy of the company’s financial records.
* Maintain sales and purchase ledger control accounts and manage data exports to Xero.
* Ensure compliance with company and taxation laws while maintaining commercial awareness.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
* Professional qualifications (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / AAT) with a minimum of 5 years of experience OR Part professional qualifications with at least 8 years of stable work experience gained in the UK.
* Experience in financial management, reporting, and working with auditors.
* Proven leadership experience in managing a small finance team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with Directors and department heads.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficiency in Xero (or similar systems)
