EXPERIENCED RETAIL DESIGN ENGINEER
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Retail Deisgn Engineer for our client based in Northampton.
The role includes:
• Taking concept designs into 3D visual creation, full design development and on into pre-production. Producing all necessary documentation including presentations, detailed drawings, specifications, instruction sheets, end of life documentation and electronic files.
• Create a drawing pack with acute attention to detail. Bills of Materials and General Assemblies showing levels of detail through sub-assemblies and individual part breakouts. Aspiring to a “right first time” approach
• Excellent knowledge of processes key; sheet metal/metal fabrication, injection moulding, acrylic fabrication, joinery, vacuum forming and various print processes. Integration of LED illumination and digital displays beneficial.
• Good material knowledge, sheet yields, achievable manufacturing tolerances, material costs and availability, making key decisions based upon quantity vs quality.
• Take project ownership and understand fully the client’s designs and concepts
• Initiate discussions with approved manufacturing base to understand best design/engineering practice to meet design brief.
• 3D Modeling Skills, Autodesk Inventor or Dassault Solidworks
• Receive & interpret briefs and agree objectives from the Design Manager.
• Understand and work within agreed timescales to fulfil project requirements and advise Design Manager of unforeseen issues which could affect scheduling.
• Ensure development, prototype and manufacturing costs are commercially aligned by consulting with design manager and obtaining permission to procced where appropriate.
• Support Key fitting teams and project managers during delivery & install, to ensure manufactured unitary is installed correctly using agreed procedures.
• To initiate, order and oversee Prototype development/manufacture and assembly as appropriate for each project
• Good knowledge of on-site installation procedures and a “hands-on” approach to assemble and critique prototypes, incorporate learnings into the production proposal.
• Good Communication skills, being comfortable talking to suppliers and communicating a brief verbally & visually.
• Cover for the Design Engineers during holidays, busy periods to support any ad hoc work as and when required.
• Complete time sheets on regular basis.
