We are looking for Works Inspectors to monitor and support managing the interface between TfL assets/operations and the construction activities of our neighbours. This is an Engineering Technician position in the team.
Work will include:
* Attending construction sites that are not managed by TfL to monitor the works and check that they are following agreed designs and methods.
* Taking action if needed, to ensure that TfL assets and operations are not put at risk.
* Reporting on unapproved works that may pose a risk to TfL assets or operations.
* Occasional patrolling of the LU network to identify any works that have not been notified.
Skills:
* Be able to communicate with construction workers, site managers and clients at all levels and in English.
* Be able to understand documents such as drawings, method statements and risk assessments and the possible risks of deviating from agreed versions.
* Be able to correctly assess the risks and likely effect of proposed works on a variety of structures.
* Ability to work independently and complete site visits/patrolling routes without supervision.
Knowledge:
* Awareness of appropriate legislation, including Construction, Design & Management Regulations, Health & Safety at Work Act and related construction regulations including cranes, scaffolds etc.
* Understand the risks of different construction methods.
* CSCS card holder, or has the requirements to become a CSCS card holder.
* Have a minimum of Higher National Diploma or equivalent in a construction or civil engineering field, OR possesses relevant experience.
* Desired but not essential: Certified to EngTech level OR working towards certification.
Experience:
* Wide experience of different sorts of construction activities including domestic work, office developments, railway work, bridges and highways.
* Experience of building relationships with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders at all levels within and outside of the organisation.
The job holder MUST BE physically able to work in the track environment and under common construction conditions including working at heights, climbing ladders, in all weather conditions. The role will involve flexible working hours to cover nights and weekends when required.
