Summary of Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to work within the Raytheon Assured Position Navigation and Timing (APNT) Engineering team, part of the Systems & Products business unit. The role involves developing Digital GPS Anti-Jam Systems and Alternative Navigation Solutions for military applications.
The role provides Design Authority expertise across the product lifecycle, from requirements capture and analysis to design, testing, qualification, certification, volume production, and sustainment.
Main Duties
The successful candidate will report to the Senior Project Engineering Manager APNT, providing technical leadership and direction, with Design Authority responsibilities for assigned products. They will support business development, contribute to bids and proposals, and generate engineering estimates to help secure new business.
They will collaborate with customers and system engineering teams to develop and manage technical requirements, generate documentation, and oversee the design lifecycle to meet development goals.
The role involves solving complex technical problems in GPS Anti-Jam products, representing engineering in production teams, managing obsolescence and change, and ensuring designs meet high standards through reviews, testing, and certification. Mentoring junior engineers and supporting research and development activities are also key aspects.
Minimum Requirements
* Product development experience at team lead level
* Knowledge of high-speed digital design, electro-mechanical and thermal design in harsh environments
* Understanding of RF concepts up to 2GHz
* Design experience in analogue and digital circuits, FPGA/DSP control
* Experience interfacing into established systems
* Proven systems engineering experience in product development
* Experience in product qualification (EMC, environmental)
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
* Ability to prioritize tasks and manage team activities
* Interpretation of customer specifications and environments
* Ability to develop hardware concepts from vague requirements
* Technical documentation skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Willingness to travel within the UK, Europe, and the US
* Degree in STEM or equivalent certification
* SC security clearance or eligibility
* Design Authority experience in system product development
* Experience with RF circuitry, high-speed D/A and A/D conversion
* Proficiency with schematic, PCB layout, and simulation tools
* Firmware development experience (Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim)
* Product testing and certification experience
* Familiarity with requirement management tools (e.g., DOORs, MS Project)
* Knowledge of GNSS systems and receiver characteristics
* Experience with SysML/UML and configuration management systems
* Understanding of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles
