Summary: On behalf of our client, Vice Consulting are looking to recruit a Head of IT for an engineering company based in Bury St Edmunds.
Role Overview: As the Head of IT, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire IT function, managing the IT team, and ensuring the effective implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our MRP system. You will play a key role in driving IT strategy, leading digital transformation initiatives, and ensuring that all IT systems, infrastructure, and services support business operations efficiently and securely. You will be expected to work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, production, and other business units, to align IT systems with organisational goals and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
* MRP System Management:
o Lead the management, optimisation and continuous improvement of the MRP system (Microsoft Dynamics) to ensure it aligns with manufacturing and business operations.
o Work closely with operations, production, and supply chain teams to configure the MRP system, ensuring it meets the needs of manufacturing, inventory management, and planning.
o Conduct regular system audits, troubleshooting, and optimisations to enhance MRP functionality and support scalability as the business grows.
o Provide technical expertise and support in the selection, implementation, and ongoing training of MRP-related modules and features.
* IT Strategy & Leadership:
o Develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with the company's overall goals, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, software, and digital transformation initiatives.
o Lead and manage the IT department, including staff development, resource allocation, and performance management.
o Foster a culture of innovation within the IT team, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and practices to improve operational efficiency.
o Ensure that IT projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with business requirements.
* IT Systems & Infrastructure Management:
o Oversee the management of all IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, and cloud services.
o Ensure high availability, security, and performance of business-critical systems, applications, and databases.
o Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
o Implement disaster recovery, business continuity plans and data backup strategies to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.
* Cybersecurity & Data Protection:
o Lead the development and execution of cybersecurity strategies to protect the organisation’s digital assets and sensitive data.
o Stay updated with evolving cybersecurity threats and industry best practices to safeguard the organisation’s IT ecosystem.
o Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) and industry standards.
* Vendor Management & Budgeting:
o Manage relationships with third-party vendors, including software and hardware suppliers, MRP system vendors, and IT service providers.
o Oversee the IT department’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and identifying opportunities for cost savings and investment in new technologies.
o Evaluate and negotiate contracts with vendors to ensure the best service level agreements (SLAs) and value for the company.
* Team Development & Collaboration:
o Build and lead a high-performing IT team, fostering an environment of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
o Develop training programs for both IT staff and end-users to maximise the value and usability of IT systems and tools.
o Collaborate with other departments (operations, finance, HR, etc.) to identify and deliver IT solutions that improve business performance.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
* Essential:
o Proven experience as a Head of IT or in a senior IT leadership role, with a focus on manufacturing or supply chain systems.
o Extensive experience managing MRP systems, including implementation, customisation and ongoing support.
o Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud computing, networking, and system integration.
o Excellent knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data protection regulations.
o Experience in budgeting, vendor management, and cost optimisation for IT operations.
o Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing IT teams.
o Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Desirable:
o Experience with enterprise software platforms such as ERP, CRM, or HR systems.
o Certification in ITIL, PMP, CISA, or similar relevant qualifications.
o Experience in digital transformation initiatives or process automation in manufacturing environments.
o Familiarity with industry-specific regulations or standards in manufacturing or supply chain management.
