Job summary We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 registered nurse to join our busy Ophthalmology team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Gloucestershire eye unit has an outstanding reputation as an innovative and forward thinking unit. The unit has eighteen Consultants heading a large multidisciplinary team of Ophthalmic nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Optometrists and Orthoptists. Our team delivers specialist services and procedures in many Ophthalmic conditions. We also provide a telephone triage line for emergency referrals and to support existing patients. This is an exciting service to work within and develop your skills with opportunities to train and progress in a number of specialist areas. Our department has been recognised nationally for its effectiveness of Anti-Veg F services within a multidisciplinary team. Main duties of the job - You will be responsible for the assessment and planning of care needs for Ophthalmic patients and co-ordinating the flow of the patients throughout the unit. - You will be expected to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and to support all members of staff in the defined clinical area. - You will be required to be responsible of the clinical area in the absence of a more senior nurse. - You will be preparing patients prior to their consultation with a Doctor, this may include visual acuity testing, intra ocular pressure measurements and eye drops. - You will assist in the treatment rooms supporting colleagues with minor operations or intravitreal injections. - You may be considered to undertake extended roles i.e. Intravitreal injecting or Pre-assessment clinics. The successful applicant will be required to work across site, spending time in Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal hospitals.
