Structural Engineer

Our Client are Engineering Consultants and Chartered Building Surveyors with five offices across the UK. Their core services include Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Pre-planning, Building Surveying, Insurance Surveying, Project Management & Expert Witness. Due to another increase in workload, their Bristol office is looking to add a Structural Engineer with a minimum of three years post-graduate experience within a UK Consultancy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop and communicate innovative and effective design ideas
2. Be aware of all environmental, legal, safety, and health guidelines and requirements
3. Prepare progress reports for seniors and the client
4. Prepare and submit calculations and drawings for building control submission
5. Work closely with key people such as the engineering team, client, architects, site managers, etc.
6. Understand structural principles, undertaking structural calculations by hand and computer design programs as instructed by seniors
7. Assist in preparing specifications, working drawings, etc.
8. If requested by seniors, make regular site inspections to ensure that the work is progressing according to schedule and designs
9. Assist the structural engineering manager and senior structural engineer in their work
10. Knowledge about the properties and strength of various materials like steel, timber, brick, etc., and use each of them appropriately
11. Use computer software to prepare structural simulation models and evaluate how the structure will withstand different conditions
12. Inspect old buildings and recommend repairs or demolition where necessary
13. Work with the contractor to ensure that the newly-built structures are stable and constructed in line with the designs
You will have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering recognized by a relevant Chartership body and a passion for building structures. You will need to demonstrate a workable knowledge of CAD and Revit.
They offer a competitive salary that is regularly tested against other consultants, with a default of 25 days leave each year plus bank holidays and options to buy or sell some of that leave. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
