Here at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust we are looking for a team of experienced dedicated and enthusiastic band 6 Midwives to join our newly established Telephone Triage team.
Telephone Triage is a designated telephone advice and triage line available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing advice and guidance to pregnant and postnatal women under the care of Royal Sussex County Hospital Brighton, Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath, St Richards Hospital Chichester and Worthing Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a midwifery team based at Worthing Hospital, which is central to all 4 sites. Those undertaking the role will be part of the telephone triage team and will provide call handling for all women who are booked to deliver at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath, Worthing Hospital and St Richards Hospital Chichester during the antenatal and post-natal periods.
You will be signposting and providing advice to women ensuring they are referred to the most appropriate place according to their clinical care needs.

Job responsibilities
Clinical or technical:
* Triage calls from women regarding maternity and neonatal related issues effectively using the University Hospitals Sussex Pathways triage systems.
* Signpost women to the most appropriate place according to their clinical care needs. Answering calls from women booked to deliver within UH Sussex in an efficient and courteous manner using agreed UHS pathways, policies, protocols and standards.
* Assist where possible with providing advice to paramedic and technician crews on site at emergency maternity situations.
Leadership or managerial:
* Assist where possible with providing a clinical assessment of the urgency of pregnancy related calls and support the timely admission to hospital, including support of the home birth teams.
* Act as a point of contact supporting coordination of escalation processes across the maternity units within University Hospital Sussex.
Information and reporting:
* Accurately recording, checking or amending details on the call logging computer system.
* Keep contemporaneous records of the clinical advice given, liaise with the relevant acute service to update them of any planned attendances and utilise the electronic maternity patient records where appropriate.
Communications and Engagement:
* Signpost women to the relevant care area whether this is labour ward, early pregnancy unit, Day unit or community midwifery services.
* Assist where possible with fielding maternity related 111 queries and sign posting women to the appropriate care provider most suited to their current needs.

Person Specification
* Experienced Registered Midwife
* Mentorship or equivalent
* Evidence of a range of excellent communication skills
* Able to use a range of IT systems
* Previous experience of telephone triage and assessment in maternity
