Join to apply for the Registered Nurse - Pre-assessment Unit role at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit at Colchester Hospital. We are looking for a nurse with previous surgical experience.
Our nurse-led team delivers pre-operative assessment to patients who will be undergoing a range of procedures within the specialties of Urology, General Surgery, Upper GI, ENT, Vascular, Oral, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic, and Breast surgery.
Working closely with anaesthetic colleagues and surgeons, we are a forward-thinking, innovative team who relish a challenge and who are responsive to the needs of the service and the requirements of our patients.
Training and support in order to reach the competence required to deliver your assessments autonomously will be given, and there will be opportunities to develop your clinical skills to enhance your patient care.
Currently, the unit is open 07.00 – 18:00 Monday to Friday.
Key components of the role of the pre-operative assessment nurse include preparing the patient and those close to them for their forthcoming surgery, physically, psychologically, and through education. Thorough assessment and appropriate actions are key to highlighting and minimizing operative risk, and delivering safe outcomes through careful pathway planning.
In this role, you will be expected to physically examine the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in defined patients, so experience in this area would be a real asset.
You will be a motivated individual who ideally should have current or recent experience in acute surgical pathways, although assessing acutely ill medical patients could also be just as useful.
We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics, and in patients’ own homes.
We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.
Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals, we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata), and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offers a variety of services.
If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.
