Job description:
We have an opportunity for a Head of CFD to join the Team at the new Silverstone Facility. In this role you will have key responsibility for delivering the required CFD capability for the team’s Aerodynamics department, through improvement to existing capabilities or the development of new methodologies. Principal Accountabilities:
* Technical lead for the CFD Methods and Process groups.
* Develop the CFD methodology, process, and tools to continuously improve predictive accuracy and efficiency.
* Work with Aerodynamicists and CFD engineers to deliver a fit-for-purpose CFD process which is adequate and responsive to the aerodynamic development needs.
* Delivery of robust, observable, testable & performant processes.
* Ensure that CFD simulations and analysis carried out within the department are aligned with the capability of the tools.
* Optimization, maintenance, and support of new and existing toolkits.
* Working and contributing across multiple disciplines of the CFD group; including process, external flows, internal flows, thermal modelling, and pipeline development.
* Work with our software engineers to translate engineering codes into robust applications.
* Discovery and development of new technologies to applied to CFD.
* Contribute to the day-to-day activities of the CFD group.
* Provide support to users of the CFD process.
* Contribute to collaborative discussions and efforts, within the Aero department and with other departments, to improve whole-car performance, offering ideas and taking on board feedback from others.
* Help and support with building an understanding of the aerodynamic flow structures and behaviors around the race car.
Requirements
* Multiple years of relevant experience in a similar role within the motorsport industry.
* Extensive knowledge of CFD methodology, process, and an excellent grasp of CFD fundamentals.
* Strong knowledge of fluid physics, numerical methods, turbulence modelling.
* Experience in programming (C++, Python, Java, or VBA) and experience with STAR-CCM+ and open-source CFD codes.
* Experience on leading, coordinating and directly contributing to the CFD process and methods.
* Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
* Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors.
* Ability to line manage / lead teams effectively.
* Communicate effectively with key stakeholders/directors.
* Clear and concise communication.
* Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture.
