Right now, we’re looking for apprentices to join us. NGED own and operate one of the largest in-house maintained fleets in the UK, which includes industry leading volumes of EV adoption and ownership. Our Transport team consists of over 100 colleagues, this includes a network of 33 Transport Workshops across our regions and a dedicated back-office fleet administration department. About the Role The apprenticeship programme will take approximately 3.5 years to complete. You’ll earn while you learn developing your knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Vehicle Mechanic. Your Training will include periods of on-the-job training at one of our Fleet workshops. You will be working alongside and learning from experienced and qualified Mechanics, in addition you will attend a technical college for block release study periods, ultimately achieving a Level 3 Qualification in Light Vehicle Mechanics. A vehicle Mechanic uses their mechanical skills and knowledge to ensure that our fleet is operational 24/7 – 365, thus enabling our teams to deliver a service to the communities and customer’s we serve. That means taking responsibility for safety, ensuring legal compliance and delivering it all cost-effectively Join us, and we will see you using your skills and participate in activities on our fleet such as; Carrying out routine repair and maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles, plant and ancillary equipment, which includes: Electric, ICE, Heavy goods, Cranes, Loaders, Generators, Trailers, etc. Preparing and presenting vehicles for annual testing. Road testing, diagnosing and repairing of vehicle faults using the latest diagnostic equipment. Attending breakdowns; recovery of broken down or accident damaged vehicles. Fabrication and modification of vehicles – to include welding techniques What You'll Need Excellent communication skills; one moment, you could be speaking with customers, and the next, colleagues or internal stakeholders. Curious problem solvers thrive here Our minimum entry criteria require the following qualifications (held or predicted): GCSE English at Grade A-C/9-4 or Level 2 Functional/Key Skills English GCSE Mathematics at Grade A-C/9-4 or Level 2 Functional/Key Skills Maths GCSE Science at Grade A-C/9-4 or BTEC Science Level 2 equivalent Two other GCSE's A-C/9-4 or Level 2 qualifications in any subject. You can also apply with a recognised Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering plus GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English. Please note : Electrical Installation qualifications are not accepted as an equivalent to Electrical Engineering qualifications and as a result you will be required to meet the minimum entry requirements detailed above. Whatever qualifications you hold, we will need to see evidence of them for you to be considered. Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment. If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions. Start date September 2025.
