We are seeking a talented Technical Writer to support our team in the development, editing and maintenance of the DLMS User Association specifications and standards. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced technical writers, contributing to the standardization efforts in this rapidly evolving field.

As an independent consultant or freelancer, you will work closely with our team to ensure the successful publication of our specifications and standards. Your contributions will directly impact the quality and timeliness of the documents published by the User Association and as such you will become a key contributor supporting our standardization efforts.

Face to face meetings could be organized from time to time to ensure good alignment and allow for personal contact with key members of the User Association’s team.
Contract Details:
* Open only to independent consultants or a free-lancers
* The tasks needed and associated deadlines are to be agreed on a case by case basis and it is anticipated that between 400 and 800 hours are needed during 2025
* A 100% remote working setup, with some travel if/as required.
* Personal time management is very flexible, aside from mandatory attendance to defined meetings.
* Additional working hours and/or assignments may arise depending on evolving needs of the User Association
Responsibilities
* Prepare, edit, review, and update sections or entire documents of technical specifications and standards to be published by the DLMS User Association.
* Ensure technical clarity and high-quality presentation of those sections or documents
* Prepare DLMS User Association specifications or standards for publication within Standards Development Organizations such as IEC, CENELEC, ANSI/NEMA, etc.
* Translate Use-Case descriptions of business needs into DLMS/COSEM specifications
* Use the DLMS UA central Enterprise Architect repository to develop and manage the Use Cases based on the DLMS/COSEM standard and export relevant information for editing and technical writing.
* Submit and manage the review process of the developed specifications or standards within the User Association Working Groups
* Proofread specifications or standards written by other Technical Writers
Essential Skills
* Proven experience in writing or editing technical documentation
* Understanding of the standards development cycle (e.g. IEC, CENELEC, ANSI, etc.)
* Experience with use-case based approaches (as per IEC 62559)
* Proficiency in tools such as Word or comparable platforms and online editing platforms such as Fonto
* Basic understanding of data communication protocols and communications engineering Experience working in distributed teams (i.e. remotely)
* Excellent written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
* Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter
* Strong time management and organizational skills
* Comfortable with English as a working language
Preferred Additional Skills
* Experience working with IEC documents
* Knowledge of DLMS/COSEM specifications
* Experience in using UML tools to create documentation, such as Enterprise Architect
* Background in the energy/water metering industry and/or wider energy industry
