Job Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Medical Secretary to join our Ophthalmology Medical Secretarial team within the Division of Surgery.
Main Duties of the Job
The Medical Secretary role is a highly diverse, demanding but rewarding role, working as part of a friendly, dynamic team. It is essential that the successful applicant has proven medical secretarial experience, the ability to type to a high standard, and a desire to develop and learn new skills and competencies.
The successful candidate will have the confidence and enthusiasm to take on the challenges of this role and experience to manage a high workload. Applicants must be organised, have the ability to work under their own initiative, and be able to prioritise a competing workload.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the team in managing clinical pathways, booking and scheduling patient appointments, typing clinics, dealing with telephone queries, managing and administrating results, dealing with post, and supporting the delivery of the RTT targets for the department; in accordance with National and Trust guidelines. Flexible working may be required in order to meet the needs of the service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Typing qualifications to RSA II or equivalent experience
* Knowledge of medical terminology/AMSPAR qualification
* Good general standard of literacy and numeracy
Experience
* Secretarial experience in a clinical environment
* Working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Outlook, Excel
* Working knowledge and experience of using NHS systems
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain concentration in a pressurised working environment
* Demonstrate good organisational skills
* Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work and consistently meet deadlines
* Customer care skills including diplomacy and sensitivity
