Title: Manager – R&D
Office location: 88 Leadenhall Street, London, EC3A 3BP
Reports to: Innovation Management
Working hours: 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday standard working hours, dependent on client demands.
Summary
The R&D Manager will be responsible for providing specialist advice to Ayming UK’s clients on R&D tax reliefs, including the technical, tax and financial aspects of the relief schemes. In addition, to being the final escalation point on claims, and must be at hand to ensure regular feedback is given to greatly enhance learning and peer to peer feedback.
This role requires a unique blend of tax knowledge, people management, fantastic communication and client-facing skills to guarantee client retention and satisfaction.
As a Manager, you will be responsible for leading, line managing and mentoring a team of 5 employees – in addition to fostering an environment that encourages peer to peer knowledge transfer.
Experience & Requirements
* Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or Finance/Accounting. Professional qualifications ATT/CTA, as well as project management qualifications such as APM/PRINCE2, is a plus.
* At least 5 years in R&D tax, corporate taxation, or a related field, with 2+ years in a managerial role. Experience with HMRC is essential.
* Experience in R&D tax consultancy or similar advisory role (desirable but not essential).
Responsibilities
* Expertise in R&D tax schemes: Leverage deep knowledge of SME and large company R&D tax schemes to provide strategic guidance.
* Client relationship management: Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring satisfaction and continued business.
* Deliverables Oversight: Review and finalize R&D claims, monitoring profitability and managing larger client relationships to ensure quality and efficiency.
* Lead large claims: Manage complex claims, delegating tasks effectively to the wider Innovation team for smooth execution.
* Project management: Oversee client projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion of tasks and effective coordination across the team.
* Mentorship & training: Provide guidance, training, and feedback to junior staff, ensuring high standards of work and continuous development.
* Business development support: Collaborate with the sales team to identify new leads, contribute to sales proposals, and actively participate in business development activities.
* Industry leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes, sharing insights and expertise as a subject matter expert.
* Team collaboration: Promote a collaborative team environment within the Innovation department and across other teams.
* Quality control: Ensure adherence to Ayming’s quality control procedures, maintaining consistency and excellence in all deliverables.
* Recruitment & marketing support: Assist with recruitment, training, and marketing initiatives, contributing to the growth and visibility of the department.
Skills & personal qualities
* Strong understanding of R&D tax credits, including SME and RDEC schemes, and relevant tax legislation.
* Excellent analytical, project management, and communication skills. Ability to manage clients, lead teams, and explain complex tax issues clearly.
